Texas Holdem Rounds

Understanding the betting rounds in Texas holdem online is crucial to winning.  Each round that passes can affect your odds. You need to be able to reassess your hand throughout the game and make a good judgement call on how you proceed.

Texas Holdem Rounds

  • 1. First Round
  • After the blinds are posted then the first round of betting in online holdem begins.  At this point you will be placing online bets based solely on your starting hand.  Make sure you have a strong starting hand. Look for pairs or Ace-King/Queen/Jack.

Lower ranking cards could provide a win but may not be worth it if you have some good players at your table and the action is pretty hot.  You will have to participate in the betting in the first holdem game round.

  • 2. Second Round – Third Street (also known as the Flop)
  • In this second round three community cards will be dealt to the table.  You need to look at how these could benefit your starting hand for a winning hand.  At this point of Texas holdem online is can be a good idea to fold if you cannot make a strong hand for the showdown.

  • 3. Third Round – Fourth Street
  • One more community card is dealt in this round.  Again each player left in the poker game will have the choice to continue betting or fold.  This is a critical part of the holdem online and if you still haven’t got a strong hand it could be time to leave the game before you risk any more chips.  Watch how the others are playing at this point.  If everyone else folds you could claim the pot anyway.

  • 4. Final Round – Fifth Street
  • The final community card is played in this round.  This is the last chance for betting. Once all the players have placed their bets (or folded) then it is time for the showdown. All the remaining players must show their cards and the hand with the winning highest value takes the pot.

You will not have to show your cards though if everyone else folds.  It is best to keep this hand to yourself to keep your opponents guessing about your online holdem game strategies.

As you can see the rounds for Texas holdem online are quite straightforward. You need to understand these though so that you can plan your game strategies and cut your losses.  You will need to also understand how to build winning hands. Failing to fold in the appropriate round when you have a poor starting hand can waste chips unnecessarily.
